If you're looking to install a bar countertop, you have many options of materials to choose from. As bars generally take less abuse than kitchen counters, some materials that are not recommended for kitchens may be good choices for bars. For example, Marble, a natural stone that is beautiful and elegant, but somewhat fragile and scratch prone, would serve well in a bar area. But exercise caution as Marble can be marred by the acids in citrus juice, coffee and wine. Another option is tile, which can pose problems in the kitchen due to the potential for water leakage in grout cracks, but makes a beautiful bar surface. But be careful, tile can be hard on glassware that is dropped on its surface. If you're budget conscious, a laminate bar might be a good option. They come in many colors and are relatively easy to install. Granite and solid surface countertops, while expensive, are durable and attractive. One advantage of using solid surface is that it is nonporous and easy to clean. Picking a bar countertop that is right for you requires thinking about your unique needs and which material best suits them.
