Small Kitchen Designs

If you have all the space you need in the kitchen, designing a new one is more a creative process affected primarily by how much money you want to spend. But if you have a small kitchen, and many of us do, then designing a great kitchen is less a question of cost than a problem of what can you fit and where.
The first hurdle to get over this is the mental feeling of having no space, the claustrophobia of a small kitchen. There are so many different cabinet designs and surface patterns that can create a sense of space, without there necessarily being that much space there. A motif of dark horizontal lines, for example, does a lot in this regard. Keeping your windows clear of curtains does, too.
The next big thing of course is storage. Here, you can emulate the kitchens of the great restaurant chefs who keep pots and utensils within arm's reach hanging from the wall or ceiling. And of course every cabinet surface, either facing inside or out, is a place for a nail to hang something, be it a towel or an oven mitt.
But mot importantly, thinking big about small kitchen design can help you feel differently about your small kitchen. With the right design you can go from the attitude of making do with little, to the much better mental place of actually loving what you have.
